IG Parleys INTERPOL Chief in France to Deepen Fight Against Transnational Crime
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, on Monday met with the Secretary General of INTERPOL, Valdecy Urquiza, in Lyon, France.
The meeting is part of Nigeria’s efforts to deepen international police cooperation and strengthen its response to transnational crime.
The engagement formed part of Disu’s first official visit as Inspector-General to the INTERPOL General Secretariat. According to a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, CSP Ani Iniedu, the two sides discussed ways to improve cooperation in cybercrime, counter-terrorism, financial crime, organised crime, fugitive tracking and intelligence sharing.
They also focused on the effective use of INTERPOL databases and policing tools. The meeting provided an opportunity to review Nigeria’s participation in INTERPOL-supported initiatives and explore further technical and operational collaboration to strengthen criminal intelligence analysis and cross-border investigations.
Disu was accompanied by senior officers, including the Head of INTERPOL Nigeria and National Central Bureau, AIG Olaolu Adegbite, as well as directors from the Force’s cybercrime and counter-terrorism units. The Nigeria Police Force said it remains committed to working with INTERPOL and other international partners to combat evolving security threats.
The visit comes as INTERPOL continues to support operations against organised and cyber-enabled crime. In August, an eight-month operation targeting West African organised crime groups led to 58 arrests and the identification of 263 suspects across 23 countries.
