Bauchi Government Empowers Traditional Institutions with Vehicles, New Palaces

Governor Bala Mohammed has officially distributed 186 brand-new vehicles to traditional rulers across the state, marking a significant investment in grassroots governance.

The fleet, which was handed over on Monday, includes 14 GMC vehicles, 14 Toyota Hilux trucks, 14 buses, and 144 Toyota Camry cars specifically allocated to newly appointed district heads.

The Governor emphasized that these vehicles are not mere luxury items but essential tools designed to enhance the mobility of traditional leaders, enabling them to better mediate disputes, monitor local developments, and collaborate effectively with security agencies.

The distribution follows the recent expansion of the state’s traditional structure, which saw the creation of 13 new emirates and the appointment of 142 new district heads under the State Chieftaincy Law of 2025. During the ceremony, Governor Mohammed also performed the symbolic groundbreaking for the construction of new palaces across these newly established emirates and chiefdoms. He noted that the state is committed to providing befitting administrative centers and residential palaces for the monarchs, ensuring they have the necessary infrastructure to uphold the values and dignity of their ancestral offices.

The Emir of Bauchi and Chairman of the State Council of Emirs, Dr. Rilwanu Suleiman Adamu, lauded the administration’s gesture, describing it as a milestone that would rejuvenate the morale of traditional institutions. As part of this comprehensive reform, the state government has also begun a review of the remuneration and welfare packages for traditional rulers to better reflect the modern economic reality and the heavy responsibilities they carry. With these projects underway, the state aims to bridge the gap between the government and the grassroots through a more empowered and mobile traditional leadership.
