JAMB Labels Viral 394 UTME Score ‘Fake,’ Warns Public Against Misinformation
The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has officially dismissed a viral result slip circulating on social media, which purportedly showed a candidate from Cross River State scoring 394 in the 2026 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The misleading result gained significant traction on the social media platform X after being shared by a user identified as @Onsogbu. The post claimed that a candidate named Okon Winniefred Sampson achieved an exceptional score of 394 out of a possible 400, detailing impressive marks in English, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics.
In response to the growing misinformation, the Board’s spokesperson, Dr. Fabian Benjamin, issued a statement on Sunday unequivocally declaring the result to be fake.
He expressed surprise that such a blatant fabrication could be shared by individuals who should be well-informed regarding official examination procedures.
Dr. Benjamin provided technical clarifications on why the document could not be authentic. He noted that the Board has a strict policy regarding examination results, which are currently designated as “view-only” and are not designed to be printed or shared via third-party templates.
Further scrutiny of the fake document revealed glaring inaccuracies. The Board pointed out that the registration number on the slip did not conform to JAMB’s system-generated format, specifically citing that the “20269” numbering pattern used in the fabrication does not exist within their official registry.
Concluding the statement, the Board strongly advised the public to treat the viral post as fraudulent. They emphasized the importance of relying solely on official JAMB communication channels for accurate information regarding UTME results to avoid being misled by fabricators.
