COAS Appoints GOCs for Four Newly Created Army Divisions
The Chief of Army Staff, Lieutenant General Waidi Shaibu, has approved the appointment of General Officers Commanding for four newly established Nigerian Army divisions following the expansion of the Army’s operational structure.
The appointments are part of efforts to strengthen the Army’s command system, improve operational coordination and enhance security operations across different parts of the country.
Under the new arrangement, the Army has reorganised its areas of responsibility to ensure more effective coverage of states and faster deployment of personnel and resources where necessary.
The newly created divisions include the 1 Division Kaduna, which will oversee Kaduna, Kano, Katsina and Jigawa states, while the 2 Division Ibadan will cover Oyo, Osun, Ekiti and Ondo states.
The 3 Division Jos will be responsible for Plateau, Bauchi and Gombe states, while the 5 Division Makurdi will oversee Benue, Nasarawa and Kogi states.
The Army said the expansion is expected to improve command and control, strengthen border security and enhance the military’s ability to respond rapidly to emerging threats across the country.
The appointments also form part of a broader restructuring aimed at improving operational effectiveness and addressing evolving security challenges nationwide.
Military authorities expressed confidence that the new command structure would enhance coordination among formations and increase the Army’s capacity to carry out its constitutional responsibilities.
The establishment of the additional divisions represents one of the most significant expansions of the Nigerian Army in recent years and is expected to strengthen ongoing efforts against insecurity in various parts of the country.
The newly appointed GOCs are expected to assume their responsibilities immediately and oversee the implementation of operational strategies within their respective areas of command.
