Baba Suwe Told Me He Would Die, Daughter Reveals on Late Actor’s Birthday

Halimat Omidina, the lastborn daughter of late Yoruba comic actor Babatunde Omidina, popularly known as Baba Suwe, has shared an emotional account of her final conversation with her father.

The model and content creator made the revelation on Saturday as she marked what would have been his 68th birthday.

Baba Suwe died on 22 November 2021 at the age of 63. In posts on her social media account, Halimat recalled that her father told her two days before his passing that he was going to die. She said she laughed it off at the time because she thought he was joking.

“I wish I made more memories with you and hugged you tighter when you told me you’d die,” she wrote. “May Allah have mercy on you and grant you Jannatul Firdaus.”

The following day she received a call to come home. By the time she arrived, Baba Suwe could no longer speak. An hour later, he passed away.

Halimat described the posthumous birthday as feeling very different from previous celebrations, noting the absence of the usual crowd, jollof rice and her father in a new shirt. The veteran actor was one of the most recognisable comic figures in Yoruba Nollywood, known for films such as “Iru Esin” and “Baba Jaiye Jaiye”.
