Fubara Backs Tinubu’s Re-Election at Southern Monarchs’ Meeting

Governor Siminalayi Fubara has endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term, stating that Nigeria is on the right path under the current administration.

Fubara made the remarks on Thursday while opening the meeting of the Southern Traditional Rulers Council in Port Harcourt, where monarchs from the 17 southern states gathered to discuss regional unity, security and economic development.

The governor said the administration is recording progress in economic recovery and infrastructure delivery, including ongoing coastal road projects, despite prevailing challenges. He emphasised the need for policy continuity, warning against leadership changes that could disrupt ongoing reforms.

He also called on stakeholders across the South to work together toward common goals, stressing that unity remains key to sustainable development in the region.

Chairman of the council, Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, said the meeting was convened to strengthen peace and cooperation among southern states.

He described the council as a reflection of Nigeria’s cultural diversity, noting that the southern region alone accounts for hundreds of dialects. He added that the gathering provides a platform for traditional rulers to deliberate on shared values and collective interests.

According to him, the Port Harcourt meeting is the fourth in the series, following previous sessions held in Imo, Ogun, and Lagos states.

Other prominent traditional rulers at the meeting included Cletus Illomuanya and Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, alongside monarchs from the South-South, South-East, and South-West regions.

The council is also expected to explore ways traditional institutions can support government efforts in addressing security and economic challenges across the country.
