APC Chieftain Advocates Reserved Legislative Seats for Persons with Disabilities

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has called for the creation of reserved legislative seats for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), urging Nigerian authorities to strengthen political inclusion and ensure meaningful representation of disabled citizens in governance.

The party leader made the appeal while advocating reforms that would guarantee direct participation of PWDs in lawmaking processes at both national and state levels.

He argued that Nigeria’s current political arrangement does not adequately reflect the population of persons living with disabilities, describing it as a gap in democratic representation that requires urgent legislative attention.

According to him, reserving seats for PWDs in legislative chambers would go beyond general inclusion policies and ensure that disabled persons have a direct voice in shaping laws and policies that affect their lives.

He added that such measures would promote equity, accessibility, and fairness in governance.

The call is part of broader advocacy efforts by disability inclusion supporters within the APC and civil society groups, who have continued to push for reforms aimed at improving opportunities for PWDs in education, healthcare, employment, and political participation.

The renewed demand is expected to contribute to ongoing national discussions on electoral reforms and inclusive governance as Nigeria considers measures to expand political participation for marginalized groups.
