Ayodele Fayose Renews Claim of Plot Against Rashidi Ladoja
Former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, has renewed allegations that Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, is plotting to remove the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Rashidi Ladoja, despite earlier denials by the state government and the palace.
Fayose, in a statement shared on social media on Tuesday, claimed that recent accusations against the monarch were part of a broader effort to justify such a move, insisting that unfolding events would validate his position.
The allegation comes amid heightened political tension in the state, with the Chief Whip of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Gbenga Oyekola, distancing himself from reported plans by some lawmakers to initiate impeachment proceedings against the governor. Oyekola denied involvement in any such arrangement and reaffirmed his loyalty to Makinde, stressing his commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the state.
Fayose had earlier made similar claims about an alleged plan to depose the monarch, which were dismissed by both the Oyo State Government and the Olubadan’s palace.
Reacting, the state Commissioner for Information and Orientation described the allegation as baseless, maintaining that the government had neither contemplated nor discussed any move to remove the traditional ruler. A media aide to the Olubadan also denied any rift between the palace and the state government.
The renewed claims highlight ongoing political undercurrents in Oyo State, though officials insist there is no conflict between the government and the traditional institution.
