Kebbi PDP Backs Wike-aligned Faction, to Partake in Abuja Convention
The Kebbi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party has announced its decision to take part in an upcoming national convention organised by a faction of the party aligned with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
The state party secretary, Abubakar Kalgo, disclosed this in Birnin Kebbi at the weekend, noting that the decision was reached unanimously by key stakeholders within the state chapter.
Kalgo said delegates from Kebbi State would fully participate in the convention scheduled to take place in Abuja from Sunday to Monday, adding that the move reflects the chapter’s intention to remain actively engaged in national party affairs despite ongoing internal disagreements.
He explained that the participation would also help strengthen internal cohesion within the party and contribute to repositioning the PDP ahead of future political engagements.
This development comes months after the Kebbi PDP rejected the emergence of Kabiru Tanimu as national chairman following a convention held in Ibadan last year. The state chapter had opposed his emergence, citing concerns over his limited engagement with party structures in the state and a lack of adequate consultation with key stakeholders prior to his declaration of interest.
Despite previous disagreements, Kalgo said the Kebbi PDP is satisfied with the arrangements for the Abuja convention and that its delegates are prepared to participate fully.
The party leadership in the state maintained that the decision to attend the convention is aimed at promoting active involvement and contributing to ongoing efforts to address internal challenges within the PDP.
