UAE Grants Temporary Re-entry for Residents with Expired Visas

The United Arab Emirates has announced a temporary re-entry window for expatriate residents who remain outside the country with expired residency visas, allowing them to return without facing penalties.

The directive was issued by the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs and Port Security (ICP), which said the measure is aimed at assisting residents who were unable to return to the UAE before their visas expired due to travel disruptions and other unforeseen circumstances.

Under the arrangement, eligible residents whose visas expired while they were abroad will be permitted to re-enter the country without the need to apply for a new entry permit or pay overstay fines. The temporary window is expected to run until March 31, 2026, giving affected residents time to travel back to the UAE and regularize their residency status.

Authorities explained that once the residents return, they must begin the process of renewing their residency permits and updating associated documents, including their Emirates ID, through standard immigration procedures.

The ICP noted that the initiative is part of efforts by the UAE government to support expatriate communities and reduce the impact of travel disruptions that have left some residents stranded outside the country.

Officials also emphasized that the measure reflects the UAE’s flexible approach to immigration management during exceptional situations and is designed to ensure that affected residents can return to their jobs, families, and businesses without facing additional penalties.

Residents seeking to benefit from the temporary arrangement have been advised to make travel plans before the March 31 deadline and follow official updates from UAE immigration authorities regarding re-entry procedures.
