The documentary ‘Amazing Grace: YorubaWorlds’, featuring Nobel Laureate Professor Wole Soyinka, has won the Programmers Award for Best Feature Documentary.

This major achievement occurred at the prestigious Pan African Film Festival (PAFF) in Los Angeles.

As one of the world’s largest celebrations of Black cinema, PAFF provides a global stage for African stories. Winning this award cements the documentary’s status as a top-tier cinematic exploration of African intellectual and cultural history.

The film explores Soyinka’s life through the lens of his Yoruba heritage. It examines how these deep cultural and philosophical roots shaped his iconic career as a world-renowned writer and dedicated human rights activist.

Produced to honor Soyinka’s 90th birthday, the documentary serves as a vital piece of global cultural exchange. It aims to preserve the Nobel Laureate’s immense contributions to literature and his lifelong pursuit of social justice.

This victory follows the global success of The Man Died, another film based on Soyinka’s prison memoirs. Together, these projects highlight a surging international interest in the life and legacy of the Nigerian literary giant.

Cultural experts believe the film’s success is a win for African storytelling. They emphasize that the documentary is a crucial educational resource, helping younger generations understand the link between history, culture, and individual resilience.

The creators stressed the film’s role in documenting history for future generations.

The director noted its importance, stating, “at a time when history was no longer taught in schools, it should be on the screen for the sake of the next generation.”
