MNJTF Repels ISWAP Revenge Attack Near Bargaram
By Momodu Favour
Troops of the Multinational Joint Task Force have repelled a coordinated attack by suspected fighters of the Islamic State West Africa Province along the Cameroon–Nigeria border axis near Bargaram.
Security sources said the insurgents launched what appeared to be a revenge assault on forward positions in the early hours of the encounter, attempting to overrun troops stationed within the border corridor.
However, the attackers were met with what officials described as swift and decisive firepower, as MNJTF troops maintained tactical superiority throughout the engagement.
During the exchange, five insurgents were neutralised, while the remaining fighters reportedly retreated under sustained pressure from the troops.
There was no reported loss of ground or equipment on the side of the MNJTF.
Military sources noted that the foiled incursion underscores ongoing efforts by joint regional forces to sustain operational pressure on terrorist elements operating within the Lake Chad Basin.
The MNJTF, comprising troops from Nigeria, Cameroon, Chad, and Niger, has intensified cross-border operations in recent months aimed at degrading insurgent capabilities, dismantling logistics networks, and denying fighters safe havens along the porous border communities.
Bargaram and surrounding border settlements have witnessed intermittent insurgent activities due to their proximity to known crossing routes used by armed groups operating within the Lake Chad corridor.
Security analysts say the latest confrontation signals continued resilience by regional forces amid evolving tactics by extremist groups seeking to regroup following sustained military offensives.
Authorities have not yet released further operational details, but security patrols and surveillance have reportedly been heightened in the area to prevent further incursions.
