Deputy Senate Minority Whip Rufai Hanga Dumps NDC

Deputy Minority Whip of the Senate, Senator Rufai Hanga, representing Kano Central, has resigned from the Nigeria Democratic Congress.

His resignation takes immediate effect from August 3, 2026.

In a letter addressed to the NDC ward chairman in Najeria ward, Nasarawa Local Government Area of Kano State, Hanga said he decided to leave the party after careful reflection and personal deliberation.

He stated that he wants to pursue other personal commitments and career paths.

Hanga had earlier moved from the New Nigeria Peoples Party to the NDC alongside his leader, Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, after the new party was registered. His departure marks another shift in the political landscape involving the Kwankwasiyya movement.

In the letter, the senator expressed gratitude to the ward executive committee and party members for the support and fellowship he enjoyed during his time with the NDC. He said he cherishes the relationships built and the experiences gained.

Hanga also requested that his name be formally removed from the party’s membership register at the ward level. He wished the party and its members success in their future endeavours.
