First Lady, Oluremi Tinubu has praised Federal Capital Territory Minister Nyesom Wike for transforming Abuja’s City Gate into a major recreational and environmental landmark.

She made the remarks while presenting a Certificate of Commendation to the FCT Administration under the Renewed Hope Green Initiative.

Mrs Tinubu described the changes at the City Gate as “unbelievable” and thanked Wike for the work done. She noted that the transformation has turned the area into a lively public space where people gather and relax, even at night.

The First Lady also expressed disappointment that no state entered a ₦50 million Green Challenge competition meant to encourage the conversion of abandoned spaces and dumpsites into clean environments. She said the prize was intended to get more young people involved in environmental projects.

She appealed to state First Ladies to mobilise youths into environmental clubs and societies in schools and tertiary institutions. Drawing from her own experience as a student environmental activist, she stressed the need to engage young people in building a cleaner and more sustainable country.

Responding, Wike said the First Lady personally inspired the City Gate project after repeatedly urging him to improve the aesthetics of the capital. He added that similar green recreational centres would be developed in other parts of Abuja, including the Life Camp area.
