Bauchi Police Hand Over N12.1 Million Benefits To Bereaved Families
The Bauchi State Commissioner of Police, Sani Omolori Aliyu, has presented cheques totalling N12.1m to families of deceased officers of the command under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare Scheme.
The presentation took place at the command headquarters in Bauchi.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Friday by the command Police Public Relations Officer, SP Nafiu Habib. He said the gesture was in line with the welfare driven leadership of the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
Habib explained that the command received 36 cheques amounting to N12,136,940.60 from the Insurance Unit of the Department of Finance and Administration, Force Headquarters, Abuja. The cheques were presented to the next of kin and beneficiaries of officers who died in the line of duty.
He said the cheques comprised benefits under the Group Life Assurance and IGP Family Welfare schemes. The schemes provide financial benefits to eligible next of kin and beneficiaries of police officers who die in service, to help cushion the impact of their loss.
The Commissioner of Police condoled with the families and reaffirmed the commitment of the Police Force to their welfare. He described the gesture as a small token of appreciation for the sacrifices made by officers who paid the ultimate price in service to the nation.
He advised the families to judiciously invest the money, particularly in the education and wellbeing of the children left behind. He said the support was meant to provide stability and assist the families in meeting their responsibilities after the death of their breadwinners.
One of the beneficiaries, who spoke on behalf of the families, expressed appreciation to the Inspector General of Police for the welfare support. The command said the presentation underscores its commitment to ensuring that families of fallen officers are not abandoned after their loved ones die in service.
