Agencies Battle as Fire Razes Lagos Airport Terminal
A massive fire has gutted part of the old terminal of Murtala Muhammed International Airport, disrupting operations at Nigeria’s busiest aviation hub.
The inferno reportedly started around 3:30pm, with eyewitnesses saying flames quickly spread across sections of the facility currently undergoing reconstruction by the Federal Government. The cause of the blaze remains unknown. Officials confirmed that firefighters from the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria swiftly deployed to contain the situation. Emergency responders from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency also arrived at the scene to assist in the operation. A spokesperson for FAAN stated that no casualties had been recorded as of the time of reporting. “Firefighters are working to bring the situation under control. No loss of life has been reported. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available,” the statement said. Passengers and airport users were advised to remain calm while authorities manage the incident.
