NCoS Foils Drug Smuggling Attempt Into Prison
The Ondo State Command of the Nigerian Correctional Service (NCoS) successfully foiled an attempt to smuggle illicit drugs into the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Akure.
During a routine gate search, vigilant officers discovered approximately four grams of Indian hemp hidden inside fresh tomatoes.
The contraband was carefully wrapped in water-tight nylon, with the intention of delivering it to an inmate currently in custody. Upon discovery, the suspects were immediately apprehended by the correctional officers and handed over to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) for further investigation and prosecution.
The Controller of Corrections for the Ondo State Command, CC Oyewole Charles, praised the professionalism and alertness of the officers on duty. He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to maintaining secure and humane facilities while ensuring that all forms of illicit trafficking are eradicated from the correctional system.
The NCoS also issued a stern warning to the general public and visitors to custodial centers against any actions that could compromise security. The service emphasized that it will not tolerate attempts to bypass safety protocols, whether originating from within or outside the facility walls.
