The Oyo State Police Command has arrested three suspected armed robbers and recovered a locally fabricated pistol, a live cartridge and a motorcycle following a robbery incident around Sumal Junction Roundabout in Ibadan.

The suspects were apprehended on Thursday, October 8, 2026, after the police received a distress call at about 9:15 p.m. reporting that armed men were dispossessing residents of their belongings in the area.

Following the report, a police patrol team was immediately deployed to the scene, where officers confronted the suspects and arrested three of them.

The police identified the suspects as Sunday Obasola, 29; Kayode Bamikole, 28; and Durodoye Ayobami, 23.

Items recovered during the operation included a black TVS motorcycle with registration number AKN 808 QF, a cut-to-size locally fabricated pistol and one live cartridge.

Preliminary investigations reportedly showed that the suspects had robbed a tricycle driver and two passengers, while also injuring other individuals during their alleged criminal activities.

The recovered items have been secured as exhibits, while the suspects remain in police custody.

The case has been transferred to the Violence Crime Response Unit at Eleyele, Ibadan, for further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police in Oyo State, Abimbola Ayodeji Olugbenga, reaffirmed the command’s commitment to protecting lives and property through prompt responses to distress calls, intelligence-led policing and sustained operations against criminal activities.

The police also urged residents to remain vigilant and promptly report suspicious movements or criminal activities, noting that timely and credible information from the public would help strengthen security across the state.

Residents can contact the Oyo State Call Response Centre on the toll-free number 615 or reach the police command’s control room on 08081768614 and 07055495413.
