Professorial Cadre to Receive New Welfare Package as FG, ASUU Reach Agreement
The Federal Government has approved new yearly allowances for lecturers in Nigerian universities, granting full-time professors an extra ₦1.8 million and full-time readers ₦870,000.
The allowance, tagged the “professorial cadre allowance,” will apply only to academics in the professorial and readership categories.
Minister of Education, Dr. Tunji Alausa, announced the approval on Wednesday in Abuja during the presentation of the renegotiated agreement between the Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU).
The government stated that the new allowance is part of ongoing efforts to improve lecturers’ welfare after discussions with ASUU.
