Dangote Group to Recall Disengaged Refinery Workers After Resolving Dispute With PENGASSAN

The Dangote Group has announced plans to redeploy staff who were earlier disengaged from its refinery operations, following the resolution of a dispute with the Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN).

The decision comes after weeks of tension between the management of the multi-billion-dollar Dangote Refinery and the union, which had accused the company of unfair labour practices and abrupt disengagement of some of its members.

In a joint statement released on Wednesday, both parties confirmed that the matter had been resolved amicably, with the workers affected by the disengagement set to be recalled and redeployed within the refinery’s operations.

According to the agreement, the move is part of efforts to restore industrial harmony and ensure smooth operations at the 650,000 barrels per day refinery, regarded as Africa’s largest single-train refinery and a critical player in Nigeria’s energy security ambitions.

While PENGASSAN welcomed the development as a victory for workers’ rights, the Dangote Group assured that it remains committed to maintaining high labour standards and fostering a healthy relationship with its workforce.

The redeployment is expected to take effect in the coming weeks, as the refinery ramps up operations to meet Nigeria’s growing demand for refined petroleum products.
