Oyo Police Parade Five Suspects Linked to Suri Ilupeju’s Illegal Arms Stockpile in Ibadan
The Oyo State Police Command on Wednesday paraded five suspects arrested in connection with the discovery of an illegal arms cache and stockpiling of firearms at a property in Ibadan.
The suspects were apprehended during a targeted raid by tactical operatives at a building located in the Gbeku area of Olodo, Ibadan.
According to the state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, who paraded the suspects at the command headquarters in Eleyele on behalf of Police Commissioner Olugbenga Abimbola, the building is linked to a former member of the state’s Park Management System (PMS), Surajudeen Adio, widely known as “Suri Ilupeju,” who is currently at large.
The police identified the five detained suspects as Ahmed Nafiu (43), Olukunmi Olaniyi (36), Femi Odeyinde (53), Jelili Akinade (50), and Muhideen Adio (27)—the latter being the son of the principal suspect who had recently returned to Nigeria from Poland. During the raid, law enforcement operatives recovered an assortment of incriminating items, including a pump-action shotgun, a cut-to-size single-barrel gun, eight live cartridges, a native bulletproof vest, bottles of suspected charm-induced syrup, and various local charms.
The development follows the state government’s demolition of the same property on June 16, 2026, as part of a broader administrative crackdown on structures utilized for criminal activities. While some of the arrested individuals claimed they only visited the premises to seek financial or transportation assistance from the fleeing principal suspect, the command noted that a discreet investigation remains underway to track down Suri Ilupeju and uncover the full extent of the syndicate’s operations.
