A devastating fire outbreak occurred at a one-storey building popularly known as the MTN Office, located at No. 95 Ziks Avenue, by Ogbugbankwa Junction, Awka, in Awka South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The fire started in the early hours of Sunday, September 28, 2025, and burned for several minutes before the intervention of the Anambra State Fire Service.

According to eyewitnesses, thick smoke suddenly started billowing from one of the rooms on the first floor of the building, which quickly turned into fire and escalated to the roof and other offices.

The incident created panic in the vicinity, with residents nearby on red alert and assisting firefighters to ensure the situation was under control.

The Anambra State Fire Service received a distress call at about 3:18 am and immediately deployed a crew of firefighters to the scene.

The firefighters battled the fire for some hours before eventually putting it out at about 4:50 am.

Although no casualty was recorded, the fire razed the roof of the building as well as a few offices and properties therein. The cause of the incident is yet to be ascertained, with investigations currently ongoing.

The state fire chief, Chukwudi Chiketa, has urged the public to take necessary precautions to prevent fire outbreaks, including switching off electrical appliances when not in use, avoiding overloading electrical sockets, and keeping fire extinguishers handy.
