Pomp and pageantry as Oba Adetona Marks 65 Year in Throne
His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Awujale and Paramount Ruler of Ijebuland, has marked a historic milestone as he celebrates 65 years on the throne.
He ascended the throne on April 2, 1960, and is recognized as one of Nigeria’s longest-serving first-class monarchs.
Throughout his reign, the revered king has played a pivotal role in fostering peace, unity, and development within Ijebuland. His leadership has been widely credited for maintaining stability in Ijebu-Ode, with notable figures attributing the region’s tranquility to his wisdom and governance.
In recognition of his immense contributions, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu conferred upon Oba Adetona the prestigious national honor of Grand Commander of the Order of Niger (GCON) during his 90th birthday celebrations in May 2024. The honor solidifies his status as a key figure in Nigeria’s traditional and socio-political landscape.
