Ekiti to Install N4.6 billion Instrument Landing System at Airport

The Ekiti State Government has announced plans to install a state of the art Instrument Landing System (ILS) at the Ekiti Agro-Allied International Cargo Airport in Ado-Ekiti.

The project, valued at N4.6 billion, aims to facilitate 24-hour flight operations and improve air travel safety in the state.

Governor Biodun Oyebanji confirmed the development, stating that the installation is expected to be completed before the end of the year. Once operational, the airport will become the second in Southwest Nigeria, after Lagos, to be equipped with an advanced ILS.

“This is a significant step toward positioning Ekiti as a major transportation hub. With the Instrument Landing System, flights can land safely at night and in adverse weather conditions, ensuring uninterrupted operations,” Governor Oyebanji said.

The Ekiti government is also in discussions with three major airlines to begin commercial flights at the airport. The move is expected to boost tourism and enhance the export of agricultural produce from the state. In addition, plans are underway to construct a cargo shed for the storage and processing of farm produce and cash crops, with support from Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele.

The airport, which received approval for non-scheduled flight operations in December 2024, is part of Ekiti’s broader strategy to attract investment and improve connectivity to other parts of Nigeria and beyond.

Industry experts have lauded the initiative, highlighting the economic benefits it could bring to Ekiti State. The government remains optimistic that the improved aviation infrastructure will create jobs and stimulate business growth in the region.
