Soludo Blasts Politicians Promising One-Term Governance

Governor of Anambra State, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has criticised politicians pledging to serve only one term in office if elected, describing such promises as deceptive and unrealistic.
Speaking during an interview on Arise Television on Tuesday night, August 20, Soludo argued that those making such pledges were attempting to exploit the intelligence of the electorate.
“They are playing on people’s intelligence like they are fools,” Soludo said. “Anybody saying they will spend one term is either deliberately being deceitful or has mental issues.”
The governor clarified that his earlier comments, in which he suggested that politicians making one-term promises require mental evaluation, were directed at opponents in his home state of Anambra.
According to him, some aspirants seeking to unseat him in the next governorship election have vowed to serve only one term if elected.
Soludo dismissed such promises as empty rhetoric, stressing that even if such politicians were allowed to govern for decades, they would not be able to make a meaningful impact on their manifesto.
“Some people are saying they will spend one term if voted for, but even if they spend 20 years, they won’t scratch their manifesto,” the governor declared.
The Anambra leader maintained that governance is not about playing politics with timelines but about delivering results that can transform the lives of citizens.
