The Federal Road Safety Corps in Anambra State has recovered a double-barrel gun from the scene of a road traffic crash along the Awka-Enugu Expressway.

The firearm was found during a routine check of victims’ belongings after rescue operations ended.

The discovery was made on Friday by an FRSC rescue patrol team. Officers found the gun concealed among luggage inside one of the crashed vehicles. No one claimed the weapon, and no valid documents were available for it.

The team immediately secured the gun and handed it over to the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation. Officials said the recovery shows that FRSC operations go beyond saving lives and also support national security.

Corps Marshal Shehu Mohammed praised the officers for their vigilance and professionalism. He noted that while the primary duty of the FRSC remains preventing crashes and rescuing victims, personnel often act as first responders who help recover dangerous items.

The FRSC has assured the public of continued cooperation with other security agencies. Motorists were urged to remain law-abiding and report any suspicious activities on the highways.
