School of Nursing Queries Student for Uploading Remi Tinubu’s Visit Video

A student of the Delta State College of Nursing Sciences, Nurse Osato Edobor has been queried by the institution’s management for alleged unauthorized online publication, following the visit of the First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Remi Tinubu, to the school.
Nurse Osato was said to have maliciously recorded/sang and posted an unofficial response to song on the arrival of the First lady on social media, which was deemed to be a breach of the institution’s rules and regulations.
The query, which was signed by the Provost of the college, Dr. Rita Ogonne stated that the student’s action was considered a serious offense and a misconduct, which could bring the institution into disrepute.
The query read in part: “You are hereby queried to explain why you should not be disciplined for posting unauthorized information about the college on social media, which is a breach of the institution’s rules and regulations.
“You are to submit your written response to this query within 48 hours, stating the circumstances surrounding the publication and why you took such action without permission from the appropriate authorities.”
The incident occurred after the First Lady’s visit to the college, where she launched her Renewed Hope Health Initiative and presented 10,000 professional kits to midwives. The student was said to have posted a picture of the First Lady’s visit on social media, along with some sensitive information about the college, which was not meant for public consumption.
The management of the college was said to have been embarrassed by the development, as it was seen as a breach of trust and a violation of the institution’s rules and regulations.
When contacted, the Provost of the college, Dr. (Mrs.) Rita Ogonne, confirmed the query, saying that the institution would not tolerate any form of indiscipline or misconduct from its students.
“We take the confidentiality and integrity of our institution very seriously, and we will not hesitate to discipline any student who breaches our rules and regulations,” she said.
The student is expected to respond to the query within the stipulated time frame, failing which the institution may take further disciplinary action, including suspension or expulsion.
The incident has sparked reactions from students and staff of the college, with some calling for stricter measures to be taken against the student, while others have argued that the query was too harsh.
As the matter continues to generate controversy, the management of the college has assured that it would take all necessary steps to protect the integrity and reputation of the institution.
