Soludo Orders Investigation into Brutalisation of People by Anti-touting Squad

The Anambra State Governor, Chukwuma Soludo, has ordered a thorough investigation into a viral video showing operatives of the State Special Anti-Touting Squad allegedly brutalizing a group of people suspected to be touts.
The video, which has been circulating on social media, appears to show the squad members drilling and physically abusing the suspects in a location within the state.
The footage has sparked widespread outrage and concern among members of the public, with many calling for action to be taken against the perpetrators.
In response to the video, the state Commissioner for Information, Paul Nwosu, released a statement on Sunday, confirming that Governor Soludo has ordered a probe into the incident.
According to Nwosu, the governor has called for a thorough investigation into the video and the circumstances surrounding it.
While condemning touting in the state, Nwosu emphasized that the government will not tolerate any form of brutality or human rights abuse by its agents.
“The Anambra State Government has taken note of a viral video purportedly showing men of the Anambra State Anti-Touting Squad drilling a group of alleged touts,” he said.
Nwosu cautioned members of the public to verify the authenticity of social media content before sharing or believing it, citing the risk of disinformation and fake news.
He assured that the Soludo administration is committed to upholding the rights and dignity of every lawful citizen and resident of Anambra State.
“The Soludo administration is committed to upholding the rights and dignity of every lawful citizen and resident of Anambra and will not allow any person or group to infringe, or inflict pains unduly upon lawful citizens,” he said.
The commissioner further assured that the state government will always be guided by the principles of justice, fairness, and respect for human rights in maintaining law and order.
The investigation into the alleged brutality is expected to be thorough and transparent, with a view to holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
The incident has raised concerns about the use of force by law enforcement agencies in the state and the need for greater accountability and oversight.
The Anambra State Government has promised to take decisive action against any personnel found to have engaged in brutality or human rights abuse.
