Don’t Go into Coalition Talks with Other Parties, Anambra PDP Cautions Members

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State has publicly distanced itself from any planned political coalitions with other parties, stating that it will not engage in any form of alliance ahead of the next election cycle.
The state chapter also issued a stern warning to its members and stakeholders, advising them to refrain from participating in any coalition discussions that could compromise the party’s integrity or strategic direction.
The declaration was made through an official statement released by the state leadership on Wednesday, amid growing speculation of possible political realignments at both the state and national levels in preparation for the 2027 general elections.
According to the statement, the PDP in Anambra is focused on consolidating its internal structures and strengthening its presence in the state rather than pursuing external alliances that may distract from its mission.
The party leadership emphasized that its priority remains building a strong, independent platform capable of contesting and winning elections on its own merit.
“We categorically reject any planned political coalitions with other parties. Our members are advised to steer clear of such engagements. The PDP in Anambra is committed to running an independent, people-focused campaign, and we do not intend to dilute our principles by aligning with parties whose values and goals may not align with ours,” the statement read.
This stance appears to run counter to some sentiments expressed within the PDP at the national level.
In recent weeks, there have been calls from some PDP lawmakers and influential stakeholders advocating for strategic coalitions ahead of the 2027 elections, particularly as opposition parties explore ways to strengthen their chances against the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
However, the Anambra PDP has chosen to maintain a cautious approach, stating that any future collaboration must be carefully evaluated and must not undermine the core interests of the party or its grassroots supporters.
Political observers see this move as an attempt by the Anambra chapter to assert autonomy and reinforce its identity within the complex political terrain of the southeast, where multiple parties are competing for influence.
The party called on its members to remain focused on grassroots mobilization, voter engagement, and strengthening the PDP’s structures at ward, local government, and state levels.
It reaffirmed its commitment to providing credible opposition and presenting viable candidates who reflect the aspirations of the people of Anambra State.
As political maneuvering continues nationwide in the lead-up to 2027, the Anambra PDP’s firm position signals a strategy rooted in self-reliance, cohesion, and long-term party building.
