TCN Restores Kainji-Birnin Kebbi Transmission Line After Three-week Outage

The Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) has restored the 330kV Kainji-Birnin Kebbi Single Circuit Transmission Line after it was out of service for more than three weeks following the collapse of a transmission tower in Kebbi State.

TCN said the line was returned to service at 5:24 p.m. on Thursday, October 1, after its engineers completed emergency restoration works at the affected location in Yauri.

The development was announced in a statement signed by the management of the transmission company and made available to journalists on Friday.

The transmission line was shut down on September 7 after Tower 367 collapsed, disrupting electricity transmission along the Kainji-Birnin Kebbi corridor.

According to TCN, engineers installed an Emergency Restoration System (ERS) tower at the site to enable the line to resume operations.

The restoration work involved dismantling the damaged tower, preparing and realigning the conductors and skywire, erecting the ERS tower and completing other safety-related works required to reconnect the line.

TCN said its engineers worked continuously to complete the repairs and restore the transmission line safely and within the shortest possible time.

The Kainji-Birnin Kebbi line is an important part of the electricity transmission network serving Kebbi and other parts of the North-West.

The company said the restoration would improve the reliability of electricity transmission along the affected corridor, although power availability to consumers would also depend on electricity generation, distribution infrastructure and other factors across the power sector.

TCN thanked electricity consumers in the affected areas for their patience during the period of the outage and reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining a stable and reliable transmission network.
