The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission has dismissed 40 employees found to have been involved in corrupt practices, according to the agency’s Chairman, Ola Olukoyede.

Olukoyede disclosed the development while speaking about efforts by the commission to strengthen internal discipline and ensure that its personnel uphold the same standards of integrity expected from members of the public.

He said the EFCC would not shield its own employees from accountability, stressing that officers who engage in misconduct would face appropriate disciplinary measures.

According to him, the commission has intensified its internal monitoring mechanisms to identify unethical behaviour and prevent corruption within its ranks.

The EFCC chairman noted that the fight against corruption must begin from within the institution responsible for investigating and prosecuting financial crimes.

He also warned officers against abusing their positions or using their official responsibilities for personal gain.

Olukoyede said the commission would continue to investigate allegations of misconduct involving its personnel and take firm action whenever wrongdoing is established.

He emphasised that maintaining public confidence in the EFCC requires transparency, professionalism and accountability among its employees.

The dismissals form part of broader reforms being implemented to improve the effectiveness and credibility of the anti-graft agency.
