Two Killed as Refuse Dump Collapses on Building in Calabar
Two persons have been confirmed dead after a refuse dump collapsed on a building at Ikot Effanga, along Old Odukpani Road in Calabar, Cross River State.
The Cross River State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement issued on Friday by its spokesperson, Sunday Eitokpah.
According to the command, the incident occurred in the early hours of Friday after the refuse heap collapsed onto a building reportedly situated in a valley.
Police operatives who arrived at the scene found two occupants dead, identified as Nfon Imé, a male, and an unidentified woman.
The victims were subsequently recovered from the debris and taken to a mortuary.
The command said it had commenced an assessment to determine the circumstances surrounding the collapse, adding that further investigations were ongoing.
It assured that additional information would be released once the facts had been verified.
