Christian women have been urged to uphold godly character, integrity, strength and dignity in their homes, churches and communities.

The President of the Women and Girls’ Organisation (WGO), Diocese of Lagos West, Anglican Communion, Dr Lydia Odedeji, gave the charge at the 27th Annual Women’s Conference themed, “Dressed for Honour.”

Speaking in her presidential address, Odedeji said the theme, drawn from Proverbs 31:25, was not primarily about physical appearance but the spiritual and moral qualities that should define Christian women.

She identified humility, kindness, compassion, patience, wisdom and faith as virtues that reflect Christ-like character, urging women to cultivate them in their daily lives.

Odedeji also called on women to contribute positively to their families and communities by promoting peace, using their words constructively and encouraging others.

She stressed that women had an important role in shaping future generations through their conduct, values and personal examples.

The WGO president further urged women to remain resilient and hopeful amid challenges, saying their sense of worth should be rooted in their identity in Christ rather than societal expectations.

She encouraged them to replace bitterness, pride, fear and discouragement with forgiveness, humility, faith and hope, while embracing service, righteousness and integrity.

Odedeji also called on women to fulfil their responsibilities as mothers, wives, mentors, leaders and role models, noting that their lives should reflect God’s presence.

On governance and civic participation, she commended the Lagos State Government for initiatives aimed at improving the welfare of children and young people, including rehabilitation and correctional facilities.

She also called for adequate constitutional safeguards to prevent abuse if state policing is introduced and urged Nigerians, particularly women, to participate peacefully in forthcoming elections while rejecting violence, vote-buying, hate speech and misinformation.

Earlier, the Bishop of the Diocese of Lagos West and Patron of the WGO, Rt Rev Dr James Odedeji, cautioned Christians against worldliness and encouraged them to remain committed to their faith.

The three-day conference, jointly hosted by the Oshodi and Ikeja Archdeaconries, attracted more than 1,000 delegates and featured health sessions, Bible studies, discussions on contemporary issues and stage presentations.
