Popular Nigerian Juju Singer, Saint Janet Dies after Brief Illness

Renowned and controversial Nigerian highlife and juju musician, Iyun Janet Oluwatoyosi Ajilore, widely known by her stage name Saint Janet, has passed away in the early hours of Sunday, August 2, 2026, following a brief illness.

The news of her death was publicly announced on social media by publisher and socialite Otunba Femi Davies. Saint Janet, who earned the nickname “Mama Yabis” and was affectionately dubbed the “G.O. of Saint Bottles Cathedral” by her followers, achieved widespread fame with her hit track Faaji Plus. Her music gained equal parts popularity and notoriety for blending traditional gospel openings with explicit, socially unfiltered party lyrics.

Throughout her career, her controversial content led to multiple bans from industry regulatory bodies, including the Performing Musicians Association of Nigeria (PMAN) and the Lagos State House of Assembly. Despite these suspensions, she maintained a successful music career by regularly headlining high-energy private events and live performances.

Her passing has drawn widespread tributes from fans and entertainment industry colleagues mourning the loss of the vibrant performer.
