Troops of the Nigerian Army have neutralized an unspecified number of suspected terrorists during a successful ambush in Kontagora Local Government Area of Niger State.

According to military and intelligence sources, the operation was executed around 5:30 p.m. on July 25 by a joint team comprising troops of the 45 Battalion deployed at Forward Operating Base (FOB) Beri, the 18 Brigade Quick Reaction Force (QRF), and the Nigerian Army Training Centre Administrative Battalion.

Acting on credible intelligence, the combined forces set up an ambush at a known terrorist crossing point in Tudun Magaji Village. Upon making contact with the heavily armed group, a fierce firefight ensued.

Tragically, one soldier was killed in action during the engagement, while another sustained gunshot injuries. The wounded soldier was immediately evacuated to a medical facility for treatment.

During a follow-up exploitation operation conducted at approximately 6:00 a.m. on July 26, troops swept the area and recovered six motorcycles abandoned by the fleeing assailants.

Military authorities confirmed that tracking and search operations are currently ongoing across the axis to eliminate the remaining fleeing terrorists and consolidate peace in the region.
