Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke has commissioned the first phase of the 3.5-kilometre Ila-Orangun township road dualisation, describing the project as a major infrastructure investment aimed at improving economic activities and connectivity in the community.

Speaking at the commissioning ceremony, the governor said the dual carriageway would enhance transportation, promote commerce, improve safety and provide easier access to schools, healthcare facilities and the traditional palace.

Adeleke said the project reflects his administration’s commitment to extending development to rural communities through investments in roads, markets and public health infrastructure.

He added that the road would encourage investment, facilitate the movement of agricultural produce and strengthen links between Ila-Orangun and neighbouring communities through ongoing intercity road projects.

The governor also disclosed that more than seven kilometres of intracity roads have been completed in Ila-Orangun under his administration.

Commissioner for Special Duties, Dr. Tokunbo Salam, said the completed phase of the project was delivered within the 12-month timeline set by the governor during the flag-off ceremony in July 2025.

He described the road project as one of several infrastructure initiatives undertaken by the administration, adding that it marked a significant step in the state’s urban renewal programme.

Also speaking, the Director of Research and Planning in the Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Olalekan Salami, said the governor approved the construction of a 10-kilometre dual carriageway to be executed in three phases.

According to him, the completed first phase covers 3.5 kilometres, while the second phase of the same length is expected to be completed within the next 12 months. The final three-kilometre phase will complete the project.

Salami added that the road is designed to provide improved access to the Federal University of Health Sciences in Ila-Orangun.

The state government had flagged off construction of the dual carriageway in July 2025 as part of its wider road infrastructure programme. At the time, Adeleke said his administration had completed the reconstruction, rehabilitation and renovation of more than 175 kilometres of roads across Osun State.
