CAC to Strike Out 100,000 Companies from Register for Failure to File Returns

The Corporate Affairs Commission has started the process of striking off 100,000 companies from its register.

The firms are being removed because they failed to file their outstanding annual returns and other required documents. The commission made this known in a public notice issued on Wednesday.

The exercise, tagged Batch 6, is being carried out under Section 692 (3) and (4) of the Companies and Allied Matters Act, 2020. The affected companies can check the full list on the CAC website.

The commission has given them 90 days from the date of the notice to regularise their records by filing all outstanding returns.

Companies that comply within the given period are advised to send evidence of payment to a designated email address. The CAC warned that firms that fail to act within the stipulated timeline will be struck off the register without any further notice.

The commission said it remains committed to providing efficient services to its customers.

The move is part of efforts to ensure that only active and compliant companies remain on the official register. Many businesses have been urged to take the opportunity to update their records and avoid being deregistered.

The CAC said the exercise will help maintain the integrity of the corporate register.

This latest action by the commission has sparked discussions among business owners about the importance of timely compliance with regulatory requirements. Companies are encouraged to take the warning seriously and file their returns to remain in good standing with the CAC.

The deadline provides a clear window for affected firms to correct their status.
