Trump Moves to Remove Syria From US Terrorism Sponsors List
United States President, Donald Trump has formally notified Congress of his decision to revoke Syria’s designation as a State Sponsor of Terrorism, marking a significant step toward restoring ties with the Middle Eastern country.
A senior U.S. administration official disclosed on Wednesday that the notification had been sent to Congress, initiating the legal process required to remove Syria from the list.
Under U.S. law, lawmakers must conduct a 45-day review before the decision can take effect, after which Syria’s designation as a State Sponsor of Terrorism can be officially rescinded.
The move is part of the statutory process governing changes to countries listed by the United States as sponsors of terrorism.
