Police Arrest 27-Year-Old Suspected Drug Trafficker, Seize ₦3.5m Tramadol in Katsina

The Katsina State Police Command has arrested a 27-year-old suspected drug trafficker found in possession of a large quantity of illicit substances.

The suspect, identified as Murtala Salisu, a resident of Bare-bari village in the Safana Local Government Area of Katsina State, was intercepted by police operatives following targeted, intelligence-led monitoring.

During an instant search at the scene of the arrest, law enforcement officers recovered 2,084 sachets of suspected tramadol tablets. The illicit consignment has an estimated street market value of approximately ₦3.5 million.

Upon interrogation by detectives, the suspect confessed to the crime, revealing that he procured the large shipment of controlled opioids from a supplier based in Nasarawa State. He further implicated another accomplice, Tanimu Abubakar, a resident of the Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State, who assists in the regional distribution network.

The Katsina State Police Command confirmed that the suspect remains in custody as tactical teams ramp up follow-up operations to track down the fleeing accomplices and suppliers.

The command reiterated its zero-tolerance policy toward substance abuse and open drug trafficking, emphasizing that removing such high volumes of addictive narcotics from circulation directly undermines the logistics of local bandits and criminal syndicates who rely heavily on performance-enhancing drugs to carry out violent operations in the region.
