Soldiers Nab 46 Suspected Illegal Immigrants in Ogun State
Troops of the Nigerian Army, working with other security agencies, have arrested 46 suspected illegal immigrants in Ogun State.
The operation was based on reliable intelligence and took place in areas like Ijebu Imushin and Ijebu Ilese. This action shows the military’s effort to secure the country’s borders and maintain peace.
The suspects include 18 nationals from Burkina Faso, 23 from Côte d’Ivoire, 4 from Togo, and one from Senegal. Among them are 36 males and 10 females. They had reportedly been living in the state for about six months without proper immigration papers.
During questioning, many claimed to be merchants and workers involved in online marketing.
The Assistant Director of Army Public Relations for the 35 Artillery Brigade, Major Idereghi Samuel Akari, confirmed the arrests in a statement. The suspects have been handed over to the Nigeria Immigration Service in Ogun State for further investigation and necessary action according to the law.
The Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, Brigadier General Friday Oguche Onu, praised the troops and other agencies for their good work. He urged residents to stay alert and report any suspicious persons or activities to the security agencies without delay.
This successful operation serves as a reminder of the challenges of illegal migration and its impact on national security. Many hope that continued efforts like this will help reduce such cases and promote better border control across the country. It also encourages citizens to support security agencies in keeping communities safe.
