Cleric Sues for Unity to Fight Insecurity in South-West Nigeria

Renowned cleric, Prophet Sam Olu-Alo has urged leaders and people in the South-West to put aside political, religious, and ethnic differences and join hands to tackle rising insecurity.

Speaking during an interview in Lagos, he warned that the region is becoming a soft target for criminals displaced from other parts of the country. He stressed that collective action is needed to strengthen security and protect communities.

Prophet Olu-Alo pointed out that thick forests in the South-West make it easy for criminals to hide, unlike the open areas in the North. He called for stronger laws to punish kidnappers more severely, saying current penalties are too weak and court processes take too long. He also raised concerns about reports that some powerful individuals may be supporting criminal networks and urged that anyone found helping kidnappers should face the full wrath of the law.

The cleric emphasised the important role of technology in fighting crime. He advised the government to invest more in surveillance cameras, intelligence gathering, and accurate data to help prevent attacks. He praised local hunters and vigilante groups for their support and called on ordinary citizens to report any suspicious activities to security agencies.

Prophet Olu-Alo described security as everyone’s responsibility, involving government, religious leaders, traditional rulers, and the people. He drew lessons from the Bible story of Nehemiah to show how unity can overcome challenges.

He also urged Nigerians to elect competent leaders who can deliver real solutions instead of empty promises.

This call comes at a time when many communities in the South-West are worried about kidnapping and other crimes. The cleric’s message serves as a reminder that only through working together can the region overcome its security problems and build a safer environment for everyone.

Many hope leaders will heed this advice and take urgent steps to restore peace.
