Wike Apologises for Cattle Roaming Abuja, Takes Responsibility

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has apologised for the sight of cattle roaming the streets of Abuja.

He admitted that the situation is embarrassing and took full responsibility for the failure. Wike made the apology during a public event, promising to address the issue immediately.

For some time now, residents of Abuja have complained about cattle grazing on major roads and green areas. The animals have caused traffic jams and damaged public facilities. Many people wondered how the nation’s capital could be allowed to look like a rural village. Wike acknowledged that this should never happen in a modern city.

The Minister explained that his administration had made agreements with cattle herders to keep their animals away from the city centre. However, those agreements were not properly enforced. Wike promised to set up a special task force to stop the encroachment of cattle into urban areas. He also warned that any herder caught violating the rules would face prosecution.

Residents have reacted with mixed feelings to the apology. Some appreciated Wike’s honesty and willingness to take the blame. Others said they have heard similar promises before and want to see real action. Civil society groups in Abuja have been putting pressure on the FCT administration to solve the problem once and for all.

For now, Wike has ordered immediate steps to remove cattle from city streets. He has also instructed relevant agencies to find a permanent solution, including designated grazing zones far from the capital. Whether this marks the end of cattle roaming in Abuja remains to be seen. But the Minister has publicly said sorry, and now residents will be watching to see if he keeps his word.
