Kwankwaso Hails Peaceful Candidate Selection Process, Expresses Confidence in Obi
Leader of the Kwankwasiyya Movement and running mate to the presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has expressed confidence that the party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, will win the 2027 presidential election.
Kwankwaso made the statement during the affirmation of the NDC’s consensus candidates in Kano State, where he described the exercise as evidence of unity and internal democracy within the party.
He said the successful emergence of consensus candidates across various constituencies demonstrated the cohesion among party members, adding that stakeholders were able to resolve contests peacefully even in areas where more than 10 aspirants sought the same position.
Speaking at the event, Kwankwaso said Obi would lead the party into the 2027 election and expressed optimism about the outcome.
“I’m talking about Peter Obi. He will be flying our flag, and by the grace of God, on May 29, exactly one year from now, he will have been sworn in as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” he said.
The former Kano State governor commended party leaders, elders and supporters in the state for ensuring a smooth and orderly candidate selection process, describing the outcome as a reflection of cooperation and political maturity.
During the exercise, former Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Abdulsalam Gwarzo, was affirmed as the party’s governorship candidate, while Dr. Nasiru Yusuf Gawuna emerged as the senatorial candidate for Kano Central.
Candidates for the House of Representatives, State House of Assembly and other senatorial districts were also affirmed ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kwankwaso also appreciated members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement, the CRC, Lafiya Jari groups and the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) for their support and commitment throughout the process.
Earlier, Chairman of the party’s primaries committee, Mainasara Abubakar Sani, praised the conduct of the exercise, describing it as peaceful and well organised.
In his remarks, Gwarzo pledged to operate an inclusive and open-door administration if elected governor in 2027 and called on young people to remain committed to the party’s goals as preparations for the elections continue.
