Desmond Elliot Declares Bid for Fourth Term in Lagos Assembly
Lagos State House of Assembly member, Desmond Elliot has confirmed his intention to seek a fourth term representing Surulere Constituency I, citing his aspiration to attain a principal leadership position within the legislative chamber.
Elliot made the remarks while addressing constituents during a campaign engagement on Friday, where he also called on supporters to remain steadfast ahead of the ruling party’s primary election.
In a video circulating on X, the lawmaker appealed for voter support, stressing that continued representation would position him for higher responsibilities in the Assembly. He urged his followers not to be discouraged by what he described as intimidation from opposing political camps.
His comments come amid emerging internal contestation within the All Progressives Congress (APC), where some stakeholders are reportedly backing a former aide to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Barakat Odunuga-Bakare, as an alternative candidate for the Surulere Constituency I seat in the 2027 Lagos Assembly election.
Elliot maintained confidence in his chances at the primaries scheduled for May 21, insisting that his supporters should mobilise in large numbers to secure his nomination. He also expressed faith in divine backing, referencing a biblical passage to reinforce his optimism.
Separately, the lawmaker recently issued a public apology to former House Majority Leader and Chief of Staff to the President, Femi Gbajabiamila, over past political misunderstandings, stating that any tension between them was unintended.
Gbajabiamila had previously referenced political disagreements linked to leadership struggles within the Lagos Assembly, though Elliot has since described the issues as the result of miscommunication and emotional strain during a turbulent political period.
As party primaries approach, the contest in Surulere Constituency I is shaping into a closely watched internal battle within the APC, reflecting broader realignments in Lagos politics ahead of 2027.
