Fubara Charges NYSC Members on Integrity Ahead of 2027 Elections

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has urged members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) posted to the state to uphold integrity and professionalism while carrying out electoral duties during the 2027 general elections.

The governor gave the charge during the closing ceremony of the 2026 Batch A Stream II orientation course held at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Nonwa-Gbam, Tai Local Government Area of Rivers State.

Represented by the Director of Administration in the Office of the Secretary to the State Government, Mrs. Rachel Ayasuk-Dandy, Fubara said corps members would play a critical role in strengthening Nigeria’s democracy as ad-hoc personnel for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

He stressed the need for them to remain honest, neutral and courageous while discharging their responsibilities during elections, noting that Nigerians were counting on them to ensure credible polls in 2027.

According to the governor, corps members must avoid acts capable of undermining public trust in the electoral process and should always act in line with the values of patriotism, discipline and national service.

As corps members, your services will be required as the 2027 election draws closer. It is your duty to be upright, fearless and of good conscience,” he said. also encouraged the corps members to integrate peacefully with their host communities and contribute positively to the development of the state throughout their service year.

He assured them of the government’s commitment to their welfare and security. Speaking at the event, the Rivers State NYSC Coordinator, Mr. Moses Oleghe, commended the corps members for their discipline and active participation during the three-week orientation exercise.

He urged them to embrace skills acquisition and entrepreneurship programmes offered under the NYSC scheme to become self-reliant after service. Oleghe disclosed that a total of 3,596 corps members successfully completed the orientation course, comprising 1,297 males and 2,299 females.

He also appreciated the Rivers State Government for its continued support to the NYSC, including the provision of mattresses and plans for additional hostel accommodation at the orientation camp.
