Ben Murray-Bruce Hails NSA Nuhu Ribadu’s “Effective” Security Mission to Washington

Business mogul and former Senator, Ben Murray-Bruce has offered a glowing endorsement of Nigeria’s National Security Adviser (NSA), Nuhu Ribadu, following the latter’s high-stakes diplomatic mission to the United States this week.

In a public statement, Murray-Bruce described Ribadu as a long-standing “friend” and a relentless problem-solver who has dedicated much of his career to tackling Nigeria’s most complex challenges.

The endorsement comes as Ribadu concludes a series of high-level meetings in Washington, D.C., with top officials of the U.S. national security establishment. Highlighting the gravity of the visit, Murray-Bruce noted that the NSA’s engagements were “not a courtesy call,” but rather a mission backed by a clear mandate and the professional standing to influence U.S. policy regarding West African security.

“Watching him sit with Vice President [J.D.] Vance, Secretary [Marco] Rubio, and the US national security establishment this week, I was reminded why [he is there],” Murray-Bruce stated.

He emphasized that Ribadu’s presence in Washington signaled a robust effort to strengthen “the unglamorous machinery that actually keeps citizens alive,” specifically citing intelligence sharing, military cooperation, and the Nigeria-U.S. Joint Working Group.

The NSA’s three-day working visit, which took place from May 4 to May 6, 2026, focused on deepening the strategic partnership between Abuja and Washington. Official reports indicate that the discussions centered on counterterrorism operations in the Lake Chad Basin and the Sahel, as well as emerging cyber threats and transnational organized crime.

The U.S. officials reportedly reaffirmed Nigeria’s status as a “frontline partner” in the global fight against extremism.

Murray-Bruce concluded his assessment by praising Ribadu’s low-profile yet impactful approach to national service. “Nuhu has never been loud. He has always been effective,” the former Senator remarked, adding that the country is safer due to the NSA’s current efforts.

The visit is widely seen by analysts as a successful move to solidify bilateral security ties under the current U.S. administration.

One of the key outcomes of the visit was the reaffirmation of the Nigeria-U.S. Joint Working Group (JWG) roadmap. This framework is designed to move beyond high-level rhetoric and into practical, technical cooperation.

The visit has been hailed by the Nigerian Presidency as a significant step in conveying President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s commitment to a whole-of-government security strategy. As Ribadu returns to Abuja, the focus will now shift to the implementation of the agreed-upon security initiatives.
