Victor Moses Joins Chelsea Delegation for Landmark Visit to Oba Elegushi in Lagos
In a significant move to bridge international football and local tradition, a high-powered delegation from Chelsea Football Club, accompanied by Nigerian legend, Victor Moses, paid a courtesy visit to the Oba Saheed Ademola Elegushi at his palace in Ikate, Lagos, on Sunday.
The visit is part of the Premier League club’s official fan engagement tour in Nigeria, themed “The Famous CFC.”
The delegation, which included senior representatives from the London-based club and members of the Chelsea Fans Club Nigeria, was warmly received by the monarch. The presence of Victor Moses, a key figure in Chelsea’s 2016/17 Premier League title-winning side, added a nostalgic and patriotic flair to the event.
For many fans in attendance, it was a homecoming for a player who remains a bridge between the Super Eagles and Stamford Bridge.
During the audience, discussions focused on the deep-rooted connection between Chelsea and its massive Nigerian fanbase—one of the largest in Africa. Oba Elegushi commended the club for its global impact and urged the delegation to look beyond symbolic visits.
He specifically called for more structured partnerships that would benefit Nigeria’s grassroots football scene.
“I am honoured by the visit and I use this opportunity to inform the Chelsea team to support our local clubs and football academies,” the monarch stated. He emphasized that exploring partnerships would provide a vital pathway for “teeming youths” who dream of playing professional football on the global stage.
The visit to the palace followed a star-studded fan engagement event held at the Hard Rock Cafe Lagos on Saturday. There, Victor Moses interacted with hundreds of supporters during a watch party for Chelsea’s match against Liverpool.
The weekend’s activities underscore Chelsea’s renewed commitment to Africa, recognizing Nigeria as a critical hub for the club’s digital and cultural growth.
As the delegation concludes its tour, the focus remains on the monarch’s call for investment in local talent. With Chelsea legends like John Obi Mikel, Celestine Babayaro, and Victor Moses having already paved the way, fans across the country are hopeful that this visit signals the start of a more permanent collaborative presence in Nigerian football development.
