Police Avert Clash Between Obi-Kwankwaso Movement, APC Supporters in Calabar
Police operatives have prevented a potential confrontation between supporters of the Peter Obi-Rabiu Kwankwaso political movement and members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Calabar, Cross River State.
The incident reportedly created tension between the rival political groups, with security intervention preventing the disagreement from developing into a physical altercation.
The development comes amid growing political activities and mobilisation by political parties and support groups ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 general elections.
The confrontation has raised concerns about the possibility of political rivalry triggering violence as different camps intensify efforts to strengthen their presence and influence across the country.
The incident has also drawn attention to the importance of maintaining peaceful political engagement, particularly as campaign-related activities gradually gather momentum.
Stakeholders have emphasised the need for political supporters to respect opposing groups, uphold democratic principles and allow citizens to freely exercise their political rights without intimidation, harassment or violence.
