The House of Representatives has approved the extension of the implementation deadline for the capital component of the 2025 Appropriation Act from September 30 to December 31, 2026.

The extension was approved during Tuesday’s plenary after a motion moved by the House Majority Leader, Julius Ihonvbere.

Ihonvbere said the capital component of the 2025 budget had not been fully implemented due to prevailing economic difficulties.

Following the motion, lawmakers fast-tracked consideration of the bill, taking it through first, second and third readings during the same sitting.

The latest extension marks the fourth time the National Assembly has adjusted the deadline for implementing the 2025 capital budget.

On December 23, 2025, lawmakers extended the deadline by three months to March 31, 2026, after repealing and re-enacting the 2024 and 2025 Appropriation Acts.

On March 31, the Senate and House of Representatives further extended the deadline from March 31 to June 30.

The National Assembly again extended the deadline on June 15, moving it from June 30 to September 30.

During the June extension, Senate Leader Opeyemi Bamidele said the execution of capital projects under the 2025 Appropriation Act had not reached an optimal level.
