PDP Fixes September 29 for Fresh Gombe Governorship Primary

The Peoples Democratic Party has fixed Tuesday, September 29, 2026, for a fresh governorship primary election in Gombe State.

The decision follows a Federal High Court order that nullified the earlier process which produced former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Isa Pantami, as the party’s candidate.

The court, sitting in Gombe, delivered the ruling on Thursday, September 24. It directed the PDP to conduct a new primary in line with its guidelines and electoral laws after finding the previous exercise invalid.

In a statement issued on Friday, the party’s Publicity Secretary in Gombe State, Abdulkadir Ahmed Dukku, informed all card-carrying members of the repeat primary. He directed eligible delegates to assemble at their respective ward areas to vote for the aspirant of their choice.

The party also urged members, supporters and well-wishers to cooperate with the arrangements and conduct themselves in a peaceful and orderly manner. The fresh primary will determine the PDP’s candidate for the 2027 governorship election in the state.

Pantami had earlier emerged through a voice affirmation at the May 26 primary. That process was challenged by other aspirants, including Usman Garry, who argued it did not amount to a valid primary. The court agreed and ordered a fresh election.
